An apparent hoax has sent swimmers fleeing the water of South Amity Beach.  A cardboard shark fin extended out of the surface of the water as two boys operate it from below.  #sharkless

Residents of Martha's Vineyard and visitors alike let out a collective sigh of relief today as the culprit responsible for two tragic deaths has been killed and captured.  The efforts of the heroic fishermen couldn't have happened at a better time as tourists have begun flooding the island for the 4th of July festivities.

The catch was made roughly one mile south-southwest of Amity, specifically 41 23'02.4 N Lat., 

70 30'16.38 W Lon.  The crew that battled with the shark is set to receive a reward of $3,000, which was established last night at Amity's Town Meeting.  Community members also learned of a 24 hour beach closing and to not be alarmed by the presence of shark spotters representing agencies like the FBI, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Patrol, etc.  The catch this afternoon has effectively lifted the ban on the island's beaches.   

The island is now set to accommodate the thousands of visitors expected this week for the Fourth of July festivities.  Mayor Vaughn is urging people to once again recreate at the beautiful beaches the next coming days.  Local businesses can breath easy upon hearing of the catch as an economic surge is imminent. 

The shark has been analyzed by Matt Hooper, a marine biologist from the Woods Hole, Mass., Oceanographic Institute, who identified it as a nurse shark.  Nurse sharks are not commonly associated with human interaction unless provoked.  They tend to dwell near the ocean floor during the daytime and hunt at night.  Because they tend to have a small bite radius, their diet consists of crustaceans and plankton.

 

     

Michael Parenti

Michael Parenti is a political connoisseur for the liberal-minded.  He is also an acclaimed political activist that takes aim at the U.S. media.  I am writing this blog because I recently finished his book "Inventing Reality" which is a critique of journalists, newsrooms, press release wires, editors, corporate elites, and advertisers.  The U.S. media is owned and operated by 5, arguably 6 conglomerates who have their own interests as to what should be covered in the news and how.  Advertisers are an integral part too.  Former CBS president Frank Stanton once said, "Since we are advertiser-supported, we must take into account the general objective and desires of advertisers as a whole."  Hoover vacuums went as far as pulling their support from a network because two soap operas were cancelled and Hoover's CEO had a wife and mother who really enjoyed the shows.  Is this really the world we live in?  This country was founded on the ideals of the people.  Today Americans are censored to the point that its subliminal,  people don't know what they don't know.  If U.S. foreign policy was presented to the public as it is in independent documentaries, newspapers, and every other country in the world, I think a lot of people would feel the way I feel.
Anyways, this is the definition of rambling, I titled this Michael Parenti and here I am.  I consider myself fortunate though to have access to the type of things mainstream media censors.  I enjoy being very adamant about my stance on U.S. media and it appears it isn't going anywhere!

Democracy Now!

Democracy Now! will be covering the Doha Climate Change Summit from December 3-7.  The announcement specifically states that everything inside and outside will be covered, that means protests.  If only we didn't have to go to an independent source to find this information out.  The mainstream press in the United States will cover the summit sure, but the protests?  No way.  The media exert so much effort portraying an image of being conservative.  If things like this were aired, then this nation could see that we are a liberal public that wants to see changes made.  It's ironic that summits like these even happen because of all the corporate nonsense that attempts to convince people that global warming is a hoax.  Nonetheless, it is clear that I have a cynical stance on U.S. mainstream media as some of my previous posts have shown.
