What Martha's vineyard residents and visitors feared most after the death of Chrissie Watson has come to fruition.  An apparent shark attack is believed to have taken the life of Alex Kintner, 10, of Mayfair Court in Amity.  

According to witnesses, the boy was drifting on a raft off the shore of Village Beach at around 2 pm today.  Though no body has been recovered, the raft Kintner was using has a large piece missing and what appears to be a large bite out of it. 

Amity Police Chief Martin Brody said, "Now we know that these random acts of senseless violence, victimizing innocent, helpless citizens, do not just happen in the city."  According to a press release form the Police department, the incident is an ongoing investigation.  Though a shark attack has not been ruled out, other leads are being followed.

Mayor Larry Vaughn along with Chief Brody "express the town's deepest and most sincere condolences to the Kintner family."

Alex's mother, Marion Kintner, was at the scene when she lost her son.  She is being treated at Amity General Hospital for shock related reasons.  No further injuries or incidents have been reported.

A meeting will be held in the town hall this evening at 6 pm.  In attendance will be Chief Brody, the mayor, and the Amity Board of Selectmen.  The topics are as follows: discussion to close beaches on July 4th, Kintner family reward of $3,000 for the capture of their son's perpetrator, and an offer by local fisherman to hunt down a suspected shark in the area.  A closing prayer will honor both Watkins and Kintner following the meeting.
